Books

Use the Library Catalog to locate print books, ebooks, audiobooks, and multimedia by keyword, author, title, or subject. The library catalog is also available from the library homepage, by clicking on the link "Online Catalog"

Databases

The library subscribes to a diverse collection of databases that provide access to information on such topics as arts & humanities, business, careers, test preparation, criminal justice, electronic books, health, medical, nursing, history, hospitality, language, literature, psychology, science, technology, and much more.

  • When you are off-campus, use your email account username and password to access databases on the library website.

Student Use of Library Materials

STUDENT USE OF LIBRARY MATERIALS

All materials housed in Edgecombe Community College Libraries are accessible to the students enrolled at the college.  The arrangement, location, and use of the materials are as follows:

  1. Circulating Books – These items are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System in the open stacks.  Students may access these through the online library catalog, and check them out for a period of three weeks.  A limit of five books per student is et on this collection.
  2. Reference Books – These are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System in open stacks, accessible through the online catalog.  These books do not circulate; students must use them in the library.
  3. Special Collections – These are housed in the North Carolina Room and arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System.  The Reserve Collection and Professional Collection are housed in the back room.
  4. Faculty Reserve Materials – These are located in a special location  arranged by class and faculty’s name alphabetically.  They are accessible through the online library catalog and must be requested by the faculty member’s name and the title of material.  These materials must be used in house unless special permission is given by the faculty member who has the materials on reserve.
  5. Periodicals
    1. Newspapers:  Current issues are kept on the racks.  These are accessible to students for use in the library.  All newspapers are kept for approximately twelve weeks.  None of the newspapers circulate. 
    2. Magazines:  Current magazines are kept in the racks.  Magazines up to three years old are housed in the back room.  All magazines are accessible to students for use in the library, but do not circulate.
    3. More than 3000 online periodicals are available from Internet computers.
  6. Audio-Visual Materials – These materials are accessible through the online library catalog.  They must be requested at the Circulation Desk by name and call number.  These must be used in the library.
